The wedding industry is in a constant state of evolution. It’s one of the many things about this profession that I love for a couple reasons. The first reason is that it keeps me on my toes in terms of knowing what the next big trend is and how to document it. The second reason is that it also allows couples to celebrate their love in fun and exciting ways ! There have been SO many wedding trends that have come and gone throughout the years, so I try my best to enjoy and embrace these trends while they’re here. With that in mind these are 10 wedding day trends that I just can't get enough of right now !
Trends in Wedding Fashion
1. Floral Wedding Party Outfits
The first four trends we’ll take a look at all have to do with wedding day fashion, and first on my list are floral wedding party outfits ! I am absolutely obsessed with floral wedding party dresses right now. They give your bridesmaids a little bit of creative freedom when it comes to their dresses, while still having that same cohesive look and feel for the wedding day. Groomsmen can even join in too with floral ties, further adding to the look of the day. Finally, the floral style also gives the wedding a lighter, more airy feel to it which is just perfect for spring and summer weddings.
2. All Black Wedding Party Outfits
Not to be outdone, an all black color palette for your wedding party outfits is SUCH a vibe. If you want your wedding party, and in turn the wedding day itself, to look and feel sleek, elegant, and stylish, this trend is a must ! For this style I do recommend that bridesmaids and groomsmen get their attire from the same vendor to avoid having slightly different shades of black for their outfits, unless that's the style you're after then go for it !
3. Regency Style Wedding Outfits
I love Bridgerton, you love Bridgerton, it’s a fact of life, everyone loves Bridgerton. As of the time of writing this article, all 3 seasons of Bridgerton are in the top 10 most streamed Netflix TV series of all time. It should come as no surprise then that the next wedding trend I’m in love with has to do with the distinct style of the show. Elegant ball gowns, an abundance of pearls and roses, light and airy colors, all this and more come together to create a wedding day that feels as regal as the show itself.
4. Non-Traditional Wedding Outfits
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the classic white wedding dress just as much as anyone else. There’s something so fun about the recent trend of non traditional wedding outfits that I’m seeing though! For example, one of my brides wore this STUNNING gray, purple, blue, and pink wedding dress that I just can't get over. It was legitimately jaw dropping, and it’s a trend I hope to continue to see more and more of !

5. Bright Colors
If a black tie wedding, or a more tame color palette aren't really your style then you’re in luck. The bright and vibrant colors aren’t just limited to non-traditional wedding attire, as a recent trend I’ve been seeing is couples going all out with the color palette of their wedding day ! Between your floral arrangements, wedding stationary, additional décor of the space, and your attire as well, there are SO many spaces to add a ton of color to your wedding day. If you want to go all out I recommend sending out your color palette on your invitations so that your guests outside of the wedding party can also add to the aesthetic !
6. Candles Over Florals
Floral centerpieces have been a mainstay piece of décor of the wedding reception for a while. It’s a beautiful tradition that I still love, but some couples may want to set a moodier tone for their wedding reception. In those situations I’ve been seeing a trend of couples swapping out their wedding reception florals for candle centerpieces. This trend is usually used in venues with a darker, more moody setting to begin with, and really adds to the overall vibe and experience of the reception. It gives your reception a more intimate and emotional feel, even with larger wedding celebrations.
7. Edible Fruit Rather than Florals
Another fun trend for couples looking for an alternative to floral centerpieces for their wedding reception are edible fruit arrangements. If done right, these arrangements can bring a similar level of beauty to your tablescape, and they have the added benefit of being a delicious treat for you and your guests to enjoy. Much like florals, these fruit centerpieces are more vibrant than the candle option we discussed earlier, making them the perfect option for a more colorful wedding celebration.
8. Bouquet Alternatives
One unique wedding trend that I’ve been seeing pop up more and more lately are alternative bouquets. This is something I am ALL for as it’s a relatively simple way for couples to drastically affect the look and feel of a major part of the wedding day. This could be as simple as using succulent bouquets, as cool as using vintage lanterns to hold your florals, or as unique as making bouquets of your favorite magazines or other objects. This is a fantastic way to bring in more detail and even a bit of your own unique personality to your wedding day.
9. Sweet Treats for Table Décor
Here’s a sweet trend that I love for any wedding day ! In addition to, or as a replacement to the other décor of your reception tables, spread out a variety of sweet treats throughout the reception. Cakes, donuts, cupcakes, cake pops, cookies, you name it. Having an array of these dessert options for your wedding is great, but there’s an added benefit to spreading them throughout the reception space. By doing this you make it so that you and your guests have to wander around and mingle with other friends and family in attendance. This encourages your loved ones to get out there and meet some of the other important people in your lives who they may have not have gotten the chance to interact with otherwise !
Trends in Wedding Experience
10. Entertainment Alternatives
The last trend I want to talk about is the entertainment for your wedding reception. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with hiring a DJ for your wedding, and I’ve been lucky enough to work with a TON of phenomenal DJs while photographing my couples’ weddings. That being said, there’s an added level of excitement and energy that comes from live music that is simply unbeatable. Bonus points if the band has multiple keyboards for a little dueling pianos action ! It’s a surefire way to have a riot of a dance floor throughout your entire wedding, just check out Olivia and Taylor’s wedding to see what I mean.
Those are 10 of the wedding trends that I am loving at the moment, but there are SO many other fun ones out there. Something I love about the planning process is talking with my couples about their vision for their wedding day. I love hearing about their passions, what they want their day to look and feel like, and coming up with ways to bring those dreams to life. If you’d like to have me document your wedding day and have some fun ideas in mind that you’d love to discuss I am ALL ears !
